One pocket, one fastening, one curved heel: a collection can change the mood of a familiar uniform without abandoning its underlying order. That is our starting question for Ferragamo’s Spring/Summer 2027 presentation in Milan.

The reference, in brief

Ferragamo’s official notes place Maximilian Davis’s collection in dialogue with 1940s workwear and uniforms. They describe stripping those codes back and reconsidering their structure. Footwear revisits the house’s F wedge, introduced in 1947, as a reference for new heel shapes. The historical connection is explicit, but it does not mean every garment should be read as a period reproduction.

Look at placement before colour

Start with a full-length look in the official gallery. Trace the horizontal marks: collar, pocket flap, waistband, cuff and hem. Which one is visually strongest? Two similarly coloured outfits can appear very different when those marks move. A high pocket draws attention upward; a longer uninterrupted front lets the eye travel down.

Now consider the spaces between the marks. A belt can create two distinct blocks, while an open jacket can leave a longer central line. Neither is intrinsically better. The useful observation is what the arrangement makes you notice first.

A second pass for shoes

View a shoe from the side before judging its relationship to the outfit. A curve can echo a rounded hem or interrupt otherwise straight lines. This is a visual comparison, not a comfort assessment: heel geometry in a photograph cannot tell you how stable a shoe will feel on your foot.

  • Is the toe visible beneath the hem, or almost concealed?
  • Does the shoe repeat the clothing’s colour or create a separate punctuation mark?
  • Is its most distinctive feature visible from the angle you normally see?

Translate the question, not the costume

For a simple exercise, start with a buttoned shirt and plain trousers. Compare the shirt loose, half-tucked and fully tucked, without changing accessories. Note how much of the trouser front remains visible and where the eye stops. Then change only the shoes. You are isolating two decisions that often get lost when an entire outfit changes at once.

Our interpretation is that a uniform becomes interesting at the point where one detail breaks its expected rhythm. The full official collection is linked below; this article draws on published material and does not imply attendance or first-hand garment testing.
